This feels like a great time to remind everyone that Steam is way more consumer friendly and GOG lets you own your game files DRM-free and with no required internet connection. Sad times.

@6weetbix The days of doujin fighting games is over, so many games come out with 6 players total and only get talked about by people like me. For every uni success story there's 30000 koihimes, which is fine for players when all you need is two but a nightmare for devs keeping afloat.

@6weetbix Completely agree with everything here, my deep cut from personal experience with dropping into the fgc and trying to get others into it is that the only way other than having capcom/bandai/huge IP backings is word of mouth.

Fighting games are bad products, not bad games. The genre's 25-year fixation on its core gameplay has gotten us nowhere. Meanwhile Chesscom got 10 million DAUs just by making chess a better product. We need to think more seriously about how these games are packaged. ↓
