If these defendants never do I wonder how me and my colleagues spent years representing people on either way offences in the crown court.

And if a judge can weigh these factors over a six month sentence they can do so over a longer one

The Prime Minister himself concluded in a report that the scrapping of jury trials led to miscarriages of justice in Northern Ireland in the 1990s.
