Because this is doing the rounds again and because the XIV community has to have a civil war every time it comes up, just throwing my two cents into the ring and calling it a day on this repeated discourse where we gotta take everything a dev says and make it about us lol. FFXIV is a story focused MMO. This doesn't mean the story is always the best and it doesn't mean it's all I personally play for but the journey through the game and its story also informs mechanics. We all know there are problems with ARR and other pieces of content. No one is denying that. However... I can't help but feel that you're wasting your time rushing to an end game of a video game with not a lot at endgame short of just going back and blasting through every piece of battle content in the game. People will go "they want to play with friends" but with how often there are lulls and spaces between content why is it that your "friends" cannot be bothered to hang out with you if they got you to play the game? Every time I've met a sprout or gotten an irl friend or friend of a friend into the game I've always tried to be there where possible to help them out. Maybe its because I'm old school and grew up in the Guild Wars and other misc MMO mines but I feel the point of the online game is to be online and interact lol. Ignoring that battle content gradually scales up over time, even if someone were to go "okay this mechanic is this and that mechanic is that" part of the reason the higher end battle content is so fun is the entrenched knowledge of years of mechanics progression that also helps you organically learn and parse new encounters by pattern, animation, or telegraph recognition. It's why we still say things like Dynamo, Protean, etc. If you buy into a long running mmo and then are surprised when you open the box and a long running MMO is inside I can't help but feel that's a you problem. Especially with how much the exp is buffed on road to 90 and preferred servers like Dynamos I just don't see there being THAT bad of waiting. Hell, skip the cutscenes and do the content in order to see how it grows over time. I personally see no reason to skip 90% of a game to "play with friends" (this one always gets me because like what are yall gonna do, fight the arcadion savage and then call it a day til Evercold? Lol) and I don't see why a friend would try to get someone into the game and then not try to help make their experience fun. This is a social game. A multiplayer online game, even. With Trusts and other things there are ways to mitigate the larger problems people know or claim FFXIV early game has until Square goes back and does more to improve that experience. All that being said if someone wants to pay extra money to Square, and then pay a sub to do 4 fights every few months at "endgame" then more power to them. I just don't imagine they'll stick around for long is all, and I can't say I'd probably enjoy hanging with them. More money to the devs at least, and "I don't pay their sub." /endrambling Thanks for coming to my TED Talk

to just "skip to the good parts" when what they're skipping isn't particularly bad in the first place means they miss out on both valuable worldbuilding and the overall gameplay experience. It also means the work YOUR TEAM put into fleshing out the world is just glossed over.
