The purpose of this account is to be used as a burner to dissociate from any particular identity. This is why I don't tweet much; I'm more interested in responding to posts I happen to see

@EpiscopalFrog "wrongfully", one of the first things luther did was remove six books from the old testament and called the pope the antichrist. i'm surprised they didn't do worse. king henry killed off priests and bishops as soon as he split off. "wrongfully" my ass

@R_CathPR @EpiscopalFrog And many saints taught against it. How do you determine who is correct? How do you know that the Orthodox aren't the true expression of the faith if they also developed from ancient tradition? Who developed their doctrine correctly?

@R_CathPR @EpiscopalFrog I know the reasoning behind what the Church teaches on the death penalty; my contention with Catholics is epistemic. Development of doctrine itself is a recent teaching which was not taught before the 1800's. You have no standard except for concensus for Church teachings.

@R_CathPR @EpiscopalFrog The official Church position *right now*? There are two-thousand years of church documents to compare. What happens if they conflict? What happens when the Magisterium teaches error, like the Arians did in the 4th century? How do you avoid personal opinions on the Magisterium?

@R_CathPR @EpiscopalFrog Either way, in my years of interacting with Catholics I have never seen two who can agree on which disciplines or doctrines are morally binding and which aren't. An appeal to an unchanging tradition loses credence when you can't define what it is.

@EpiscopalFrog Prot cope continues because they keep trying to gaslight themselves and everyone else into thinking that "all the Reformers wanted to do was to reform, not start a new church", while at the same time we see the Reformers rejecting ancient Cristian doctrine and inventing new.

@Hermes2110 You're not wrong in this regard, though I do think the extreme end of valuing "inherent human dignity" are a recent phenomenon. I don't blame people nowadays for taking this as the Christian spirit as a whole even if I think it's a misunderstanding.

Hermes the thrice blessed
@NeoTheoria That is plenty of main stream Christian denominations do affirm a view bore out a specific reading of the text thats "all humans are image bearers of God and so have inherent dignity"

I hate to be that pagan but the red and blue button situation probably just rests on a question of "do you believe humans per se have dignity and value, and are all men your brother" that is the question is a question of a moral value set indexed to a Christian worldview.

@garrettham_esq Your deepest assumption is that Christianity was the exact same thing for 1,500 years until Protestants suddenly came out of nowhere and overthrew the traditional authorities. Even Cardinal Newman knows this isn't the case.

Protestantism's deepest assumption is that Christianity went wrong almost immediately and stayed wrong for 1,500 years. That's not a small claim. It's the entire premise of the movement.

@mysteriousmetal @realmikolson So you are going to handwave entire Christian groups as "a bunch of heretics?" There was a point where nearly the entire church was controlled by Arians; if that is your magisterium which interprets the Bible then by what metric do you determine that they are false?

@NeoTheoria @realmikolson Thats just not true historic Christianity is catholic there was 1 split between the catholic and orthodox church in 1054, I mean there was a bunch of heretics claiming to be Christian but outside of the church it was impossible.

Roman Catholicism is a visually beautiful religion. I admire that about it. But so is Hinduism, for example. Outward beauty without the gospel is just that: outward beauty, and nothing more. It will return to nothing one day. White-washed tombs, as it were.

@mysteriousmetal @realmikolson The members of the Church throughout history did not always believe in the same things and have splintered even before the Protestant Reformation. When historical church teachings conflict, by what metric do you determine a teaching to be true?

@mysteriousmetal @realmikolson What do you define as "historic Christianity"? The ideas of Christians in 200 AD, 500 AD, 1000 AD, etc. from region to region each have their own interpretation according to their living context; how do you understand their similarities enough to distill an essence of what it is?

@mysteriousmetal @realmikolson There's nothing wrong with this claim in itself; the Mainline protestants with their gaudy cathedrals do not even believe in the Resurrection while the rock-concert Evangeicals that everyone scorns are solid on issues of homosexuality, abortion, marriage, etc.

@SpaceGhost993 @AnAverageGamerX @funnygamedev The assumption you make is that "enjoying life" is the end-all goal. A dog can enjoy rolling in filth, that doesn't make the dog an enviable character, nor does it delegitimize the complaints of those who have to clean up after its mess.

@AnAverageGamerX @funnygamedev Ok well most Millennials are out enjoying life, and I'm seeing a lot of Gen-Z men all day complaining, getting upset about a Caleb Hammer clip. Y'all have all this wisdom on how to live life, but are still bitter, looking for a group to blame.

@onlyry7654 @The_Nutscracker @ModernBoethius Where did I say he isn’t? He definitely is, which is why his correction of Moses’ laws stands today and overrides the outdated doctrine of “eye for an eye”. There’s no theological ambiguity around this - it is the very basis of Christian faith.
