Very glad I grew up playing Halo. Perhaps it’s cliche but I do believe that being habituated by stories of duty, sacrifice and courage in the face of impossible odds has formed me into a better man. Even though video games are surrogate activity and not real accomplishment I think that especially for young boys playing the hero, and doing something that seems impossible to save the day trains them to be more confident and courageous in their adult life because in some way they will have already done hard things.

As expected Iran is driving an extremely hard bargain in exchange for cession of hostilities. Obviously the United States will not agree to all these points in a final settlement but acceptance of any of these points puts Iran in a better position than before the war and would constitute a strategic US defeat.

Not trying to be pedantic here. I actually want to know when I ask this question if there was ever a point in time where this was true.
Was Julius Caesar/Rome ever controlled by a pocket demographic where he/they were obligated to go to war for them anytime they asked really nicely? Was the Senate of Rome ever so corrupt that its obligations were obviously to outside nations and not the people of Rome?
I know that’s like several hundred years of history and I’m not familiar with every single aspect of it. I actually want to know if we can justify calling this war anything other than being told what to do by our “allies”
