Right in time for #NephMadness, here’s our Kidney360 perspective on a trend we’ve been noticing - early labeling of #POCUS 'expertise', particularly in #Nephrology. @nephrothaniel @AmirKazory 🔗journals.lww.com/kidney360/cita… No one learned the physical exam in a day, so why do we expect POCUS competency to happen that fast, particularly when the scope is all over the place, from just IVC checks to full-on hemodynamic assessment? We’re big believers in the value of POCUS but to help it reach its full potential, we need better standardization in both training and competency assessment so the field continues to grow in the right direction.

This is hepatization of the right lung seen with #pocus. Note the liver on the right with the bright line of the diaphragm in the center. Above the diaphragm is a hepatized lung that appears very similar to the liver. Without locating the diaphragm, one may assume this is simply an elevated hemidiaphragm and completely miss a pneumonia.
