@peterboghossian @KamalaHarris This is so frustrating. Democrats have ZERO original ideas or opinions. It’s all just oppose Trump. Regardless how you feel about Iran, Democrats just look stupid.

Donald Trump is dragging the United States into a war the American people do not want. Let me be clear: I am opposed to a regime-change war in Iran, and our troops are being put in harm’s way for the sake of Trump’s war of choice. Read my full statement:

If you knew nothing about Anthropic, and simply looked at the people coming out in favor of Anthropic…. ….you would not be in favor of Anthropic. As ever, the coalition often tells you everything the narrative will not.

@AdamRackis How do we know it wasn’t the Department of War who didn’t like the terms after signing?

I agree with Anthropic's moral stand 100%, but this is also true. If they were unhappy with the terms of the contract, they were free to simply not bid. The ego of Anthropic and their CEO is insane.
Async@asynchronous_x

(Former contractor that made software for the Feds here) You don’t submit a bid to the DoD, win the contract, and then redline it after. It’s the monkey paw of business, it’s one of the quickest ways to get in trouble as a private company. You have ethical issues? Then don’t bid.

I look forward to reading the contract terms and hearing more because I know what this looks like, what it implies about how everything went down, and at least one major player in this (DoW, OpenAI or Anthropic) is very profoundly, blatantly lying to us.
Sam Altman@sama

Tonight, we reached an agreement with the Department of War to deploy our models in their classified network. In all of our interactions, the DoW displayed a deep respect for safety and a desire to partner to achieve the best possible outcome. AI safety and wide distribution of benefits are the core of our mission. Two of our most important safety principles are prohibitions on domestic mass surveillance and human responsibility for the use of force, including for autonomous weapon systems. The DoW agrees with these principles, reflects them in law and policy, and we put them into our agreement. We also will build technical safeguards to ensure our models behave as they should, which the DoW also wanted. We will deploy FDEs to help with our models and to ensure their safety, we will deploy on cloud networks only. We are asking the DoW to offer these same terms to all AI companies, which in our opinion we think everyone should be willing to accept. We have expressed our strong desire to see things de-escalate away from legal and governmental actions and towards reasonable agreements. We remain committed to serve all of humanity as best we can. The world is a complicated, messy, and sometimes dangerous place.

Anthropic has the right to define how their products are used. Our government has the right to use a different provider. And the people / our representatives have the right to define how the government uses AI for war and surveillance. This feels pretty basic.

The DOW got so mad at Anthropic for insisting on carve-outs for mass domestic surveillance and autonomous weapons that they declared it a supply chain risk and struck a deal with OpenAI that includes...the exact same carve-outs.

@asynchronous_x How do you know the DoD didn’t decide to dislike the terms after signing? Sounds more like Dario didn’t put any money in pockets and brown nose the Oval Office like Sam, Elon and Sundar did.

To put a finer point on what just happened: Hegseth's post says that "no contractor, supplier, or partner that does business with the United States military may conduct any commercial activity with Anthropic". Anthropic serves its models through the cloud. Its primary partner is AWS, but it also serves its models through Google Cloud and Azure (not sure if there are any others?). ALL of Amazon, Microsoft and Google do business with the U.S. military (see, e.g., the link below). If we take Hegseth's post literally, Anthropic should now find itself unable to serve its models via any of these providers. war.gov/News/Releases/…

You do realise the implication of being branded as a supply chain risk? That means any company that do business with the government cannot use Anthropic. You do realize that cloud providers like Aws, Google, and Microsoft all works for the government? You do realize that almost all major supplier works for the federal government? There would be no Anthropic in the US. They need to relocate somewhere else.

It’s extremely good that Anthropic has not backed down, and it’s siginficant that OpenAI has taken a similar stance. In the future, there will be much more challenging situations of this nature, and it will be critical for the relevant leaders to rise up to the occasion, for fierce competitors to put their differences aside. Good to see that happen today.

I’m confused about this Anthropic feud It seems like it started after concerns were raised that Anthropic was unhappy its tech was used in the Maduro raid But now the discourse is about a surveillance state? Using AI to plan a mission != mass surveillance What am I missing?

What the frick: "I am directing the Department of War to designate Anthropic a Supply-Chain Risk to National Security. Effective immediately, no contractor, supplier, or partner that does business with the United States military may conduct any commercial activity with Anthropic. Anthropic will continue to provide the Department of War its services for a period of no more than six months to allow for a seamless transition to a better and more patriotic service." They are going hard against anthropic holy sh*t

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth@SecWar

This week, Anthropic delivered a master class in arrogance and betrayal as well as a textbook case of how not to do business with the United States Government or the Pentagon. Our position has never wavered and will never waver: the Department of War must have full, unrestricted access to Anthropic’s models for every LAWFUL purpose in defense of the Republic. Instead, @AnthropicAI and its CEO @DarioAmodei, have chosen duplicity. Cloaked in the sanctimonious rhetoric of “effective altruism,” they have attempted to strong-arm the United States military into submission - a cowardly act of corporate virtue-signaling that places Silicon Valley ideology above American lives. The Terms of Service of Anthropic’s defective altruism will never outweigh the safety, the readiness, or the lives of American troops on the battlefield. Their true objective is unmistakable: to seize veto power over the operational decisions of the United States military. That is unacceptable. As President Trump stated on Truth Social, the Commander-in-Chief and the American people alone will determine the destiny of our armed forces, not unelected tech executives. Anthropic’s stance is fundamentally incompatible with American principles. Their relationship with the United States Armed Forces and the Federal Government has therefore been permanently altered. In conjunction with the President's directive for the Federal Government to cease all use of Anthropic's technology, I am directing the Department of War to designate Anthropic a Supply-Chain Risk to National Security. Effective immediately, no contractor, supplier, or partner that does business with the United States military may conduct any commercial activity with Anthropic. Anthropic will continue to provide the Department of War its services for a period of no more than six months to allow for a seamless transition to a better and more patriotic service. America’s warfighters will never be held hostage by the ideological whims of Big Tech. This decision is final.

Respectfully, there is more to software companies than most people that don’t work in them fail to understand. Integrations between system. We use a lot of other SaaS products that we need to share information between them. Tooling that allows users to find and parse logs quickly across environments. There’s endless amount of problems to solve. AI unlocks that potential at light speed. Enterprise companies run tight ships and have to remain compliant and lean. You don’t get time to build anything like this. There is a lot to the software development most people don’t understand. It’s not what the internet will have you believe.

> And i just feel so horribly guilty and wrong because i am not getting the results of "everyone else on twitter." It kinda feels like "everyone else on twitter" might not be perfectly honest with their results
ThePrimeagen@ThePrimeagen

Alright interns, we need to have some real talk here I am tired of vibing on stream. I dont really like vibe coding unless its a tool i have no desire to build (how i manage things on my stream / how i write my youtube videos are great examples of things i would never build but i have). I dont like vibing the things i care about. I hate the code it generates, i hate the feeling of getting everything i ask for and nothing i want. I hate the subtle offness around vibe coded things. It is just driving me nuts. So for the next while i am going to be done vibing on stream. I genuinely have been trying my hardest to make this work and i cannot quite put a finger on why i hate it, but i do. And i just feel so horribly guilty and wrong because i am not getting the results of "everyone else on twitter." How am i, someone who prides themselves on making youtube videos that i think are actually good for people. To make videos that help people laugh at the silliness of tech or learn something new. But here i am not able to keep up with all these people claiming the sky is literally coming down. I just feel horrible and guilty about it. Now i know the world is changing fast, and i want to be able to understand that change super well, be able to talk about it, be able to give really accurate opinions about it so for the last 3 months i have vibe coded an absurd amount of things. But now... i am just tired of it. I dont want this any more. I want to be a tradcoder. I dont know why i told everyone this, but i just have this growing sickness that is just eating me alive around vibing and i dont know how to express it. You all are fired, CEO ThePrimeagen
