#Pyrolysis is the thermochemical decomposition of solid #biomass performed at elevated temperatures in the absence of oxygen. Thus, a solid, a liquid, and a gas fraction are achieved. Different modes of pyrolysis are also distinguished: fast, intermediate, and slow (depending on the process used—either torrefaction or carbonisation). Pyrolysis can be viewed as a biomass densification step (e.g., torrefaction) to increase the energy density before long-distance transport. #FastPyrolysis is already established as a suitable technology for the production of marketable fuels.
