But give them a try! If you do, I hope you like 'em! Ninja Turtles is just a really ideal execution of what they were going for. Speed Racer though is one of the most visually unique movies ever made. No other movie looks like it afaik, even like 20 years later.

@EmmaRSotomayor Closest to being the first type tbh. Lots of fantasy and sci-fi. Some military sf but not exclusively.
I do mean to re-read "Ulysses" one of these years eventually though. 😓 Doubt I could ever have done it in a week, though!

I've noticed the men I know who read fiction fall into 3 categories:
- Guys who read military sci-fi, thrillers, or MAYBE LotR but little else.
- Guys who don't read above middle-grade level fiction
- Guys who are literally reading 600 page Russian novels in one week.

@Skylinex13 I tried playing a very smart D&D character over chat once. It didn't go well. My inability to focus fully on the game over chat was the main issue, but I also just couldn't live up to my own idea for how smart he should be while on-the-fly.

Ok let’s end this: “hot dog sauce” is not a thing here in the United States. We use mustard (mostly yellow, but also brown), along with ketchup, pickle relish (sweet and dill), onions, chili, kraut, tomato pickle & sport peppers (Chicago), cream cheese (Seattle), nacho cheese sauce, jalapeños, and other things. But we do not have “hot dog sauce”. We DO have burger sauce

@jonathanmb32 Superman is a weird case where this periodically happens, but also when it does there's a huge backlash (in addition to the fans who love it), & the fanbase has split over the question of "how silly should the Superman series be" several times, most clearly in the last 15 years.

Been rattling around a take in my head about how long-running franchise that start silly have to eventually give way to total seriousness, b/c any trace amount of silliness in a new installment becomes viewed as some form of disrespect towards the sacred original texts.
