-nerfed from discovery
-can’t earn from ads
That’s it.
And before somebody says “what if someone bots attacks you”. You can ask the team to cap your views, we already do this.
My tweet yesterday was a bit unfair to the folks at twitch. We aren’t in a position to shit on them for talking about doing something. But I know from experience the limitations they face and that their solution is purely optics.
We’ve been part of the problem for so long and now we want to be part of the solution as we imminently roll out algo and ads. Because bots cost us tens of millions a year and because we know how much it hurts small to medium streamers, we have the incentives to fix this.

Twitch already caps view counts, we got this idea from their staff years ago.
They won’t ban famous streamers. The same arguments apply (someone else is botting me). And even then those streamers have access to better methods and “real” viewers. The “stream together” feature on twitch also allows you to safely have a buddy bot your stream up for discovery purposes.
Kick is working on killing discovery for streamers who bot via our upcoming algo. We think this is the best method, as streamers who bot to inflate their positioning on the platform over smaller streamers will find themselves invisible to users that don’t follow them. Twitch should do the same.

Twitch CEO Dan Clancy announces they will be cracking down on viewbotting by placing caps on channels known to be persistently viewbotting. Repeated violations could lead to suspensions. “Today, we're introducing a new enforcement type that we plan to roll out over the next few weeks. For channels identified as persistently viewbotting, we will apply a cap to the streamer's CCV for a fixed period of time, on all of the Twitch surfaces. The cap will be based upon historical data regarding that creator's non-viewbotted traffic. Repeated violations will result in longer penalties. Streamers will be notified when an enforcement is applied, along with the duration of the penalty, and can appeal through the appeals portal.”

The file, called weights.bin, is part of Google’s Gemini Nano on-device language model and lands in the browser’s user data folder under OptGuideOnDeviceModel. It powers built-in AI tools such as “Help me write,” smarter tab suggestions, on-device scam detection, and page summarization. The download triggers automatically for devices meeting minimum hardware requirements, and Chrome often replaces the files if deleted. While the model processes data locally, installation happens in the background with minimal notification. The scale is noteworthy. Hundreds of millions or billions of installations add up to thousands of tonnes of carbon emissions globally from data transfer, even though each is a one-time event. To prevent or remove it, go to chrome://flags, disable the entries for the optimization guide on-device model and Prompt API, restart the browser, and manually delete the folder.
