@tnorthernway There was probably a grammar school associated with the Minster School in nearby Southwell from the 13th century, but nothing named of that date in Newark.

@NewarkCT Thank you so much. That’s why we thought it might be the Magdalene school but haven’t yet traced it back as far as our records. A ‘song school’ assoc. with the church would make sense in early 14th century.

@advertisergroup @NSDCouncil Bit pedantic, but the Fernwood tower was never a water tower. It was the central tower of a power house, a small localised power station, built to generate power for the old hospital.

The next Triskele Heritage talk in the Understanding Mediaeval Buildings online series will be on 23 Nov looking at how to date timber-framed houses. Pictured: Kirkgate, Newark (Notts). Conventionally dated late 15thC, then dendro dated 1337. Booking: tinyurl.com/7mc95p3n

Overwhelmed by the recent surge of followers and comments- Thank you! I started this last year but only went 'public' last month. I had no idea people would be interested! I didn't really get Twitter! I'm a teacher on my summer hols and I really love churches ⛪ #romans12v6 🙏
