A new model for K–12 education in North Houston. Academics. Arts. Athletics. Home schooling. Courage. Honor. Excellence. Formerly Tomball Kings.

Let's not change the subject. We can all agree that language, writing, books, the printing press, etc. are good things. The subject at hand is Alpha School's ridiculous sales pitch that kids will "crush academics in just 2 hours." Technological evolution doesn't make that claim sensible, much less prove it.

Let’s look at history. No books. Books. Libraries. Digital. Internet. AI. (Obviously summarized and accelerated to make a point). Do you think access to info and learning ability got better or worse as we progressed? We can literally make small language models of known and factual texts (books) and get this info in seconds. Is that better? It doesn’t take the human away - it accelerates pace of learning and adoption.

A claim to the effect "artificial-intelligence software programs can be helpful learning tools" is plausible and supported by over sixty years of experience with such tools in American education. Alpha School's claim that kids will "crush academics in just 2 hours" is an insult to intelligence, whether artificial or natural. It's a sales pitch for the gullible, ill-defined, illogical, immeasurable, unverifiable, and contrary to common sense. What does it even mean to "crush academics?" If one can "crush academics" in two hours, why not spend three hours to absolutely obliterate it? Erudition is a quality, not a quantity. Give a hundred different people the same book to read. It will take each of them a different amount of time to do so, and each will come away from the experience with different levels of comprehension of the material and different ways of integrating what they read with what they already knew. Learning, no matter the tools, will always be a subjective process, and all claims that a finite amount of time engaged in the activity will be sufficient are ludicrous.

Elite baseball at the prep level is about to shift (it already has in the A cities). Top players will move to prep academies + AI-driven models like Alpha School. 2–4 hrs academics. 4–5 hrs skill work, strength, live ABs. The edge? Strength + seeing real pitching + elite training. Want high-level D1? An 8-hour school day is not the path. Academics? These kids are outperforming. Train with the best during the day. Games at night vs higher quality competition. Travel ball gets disrupted. Fall–Spring = real development. Summer = invite-only elite competition or rest period. This is a far better model.

This is great. At those ages, well over half of their "play time" should build foundational athletic ability rather than sport-specific skills. Early specialization is a prescription for long-run frustration. We love your ideas.

If I had the opportunity to work with a group of 8u to 11u baseball players this is what the training would look like. Instead of an extended season through summer and fall, the entire focus of that time period would be on global athletic development. #LTAD

We are absolutely thrilled for you, Steven. Only a small fraction of athletes have the determination, character, and work ethic to sustain the years-long effort required to reach college baseball. We will be watching and cheering for you on this next, huge step in your journey. Well done!

Got the W 10-0 today against Cypress Christian with 4 IP, 4Ks and only 2 H allowed. Had a nice little pick at 1B. Also in 2 games today went 3-6 at the plate with 2 RBIs. @tomballkings @TomballKingsBB

One solution to this problem would be to have JV teams. This would give the players coming out of high school time to develop and coaches an opportunity to observe and guide them. Creating a schedule with an affordable travel budget would be straightforward. This would allow programs to honor their commitments to high school recruits while still taking advantage of the portal.

I’ve heard from multiple College coaches that they are dropping most of their HS commits It’s garbage & absolute bullshit but it’s the landscape of College baseball right now One SEC coach said of their ~12 HS commits maybe “1 to 3 will make it to campus” due to draft/portal
