Black tax is slowly becoming more than just a financial responsibility, for some people, it is starting to affect their mental health in a real way. The pressure to always show up for family and friends , often without clear limits, can leave someone feeling drained and overwhelmed. You try to do your best, but your own plans and needs keep being pushed aside. With time, that weight builds up and turns into stress, anxiety, and sometimes even guilt when you cannot meet every expectation. The intention behind it comes from a good place, but the impact can be heavy. It is time we spoke more openly about setting boundaries and protecting our well-being.

Today I start the final year of my 30’s 🎂. Looking back on where I was a decade ago, I am thankful for the cumulative progress in my personal and professional life: 🎯 Started a family 🎯 Bought a first house in a country regularly ranked in the top tier worldwide for quality of life 🎯 Acquired a new passport allowing broad visa-free travel to 190+ countries while staying rooted in Africa 🎯 Entered the tech world and began building equity in startups and investment funds 🎯 Returned to agrifood, with the opportunity to help shape an organization that can transform a sector employing around half of Africa’s workforce Not everything worked out as i hoped, but the lessons from both successes and setbacks are what I aim to share with a new generation of leaders: what worked, what didn’t, and why; and the new tools I use today that I wish i had a decade ago. Can’t wait to see what next year/decade holds.
