Rory Jennings on 5 Sporting Directors 🗣️ The size of Chelsea. Liam rosenior isn’t a Premier League level manager and the ownership put him in a role he clearly wasn’t ready for. That’s the reality. What makes it worse is that the same people who appointed Liam Rosenior then sacked him, yet none of them faced any consequences themselves. If you are responsible for appointing arguably the worst manager in Chelsea’s recent history, you should also be under pressure for your job. The worrying part is that it was obvious to almost everyone that Rosenior was not the right replacement for Enzo Maresca, yet the ownership still handed him a six-year deal. After the Graham Potter situation, trying the same experiment again just showed how naive or incompetent the decision-makers at the club have been. Chelsea spent billions building this project, but the structure around the football decisions kept failing. What exposed everything even more was the dressing room. You could clearly see certain players stopped believing in the manager and once that happens, standards collapse. Whatever players think privately, their responsibility is still to fight for the badge, the fans, and the history of Chelsea Football Club. Instead, the lack of leadership, accountability, and belief became obvious for everyone to see. That’s why the appointment of Xabi Alonso feels so significant now because it finally feels like Chelsea have realised the previous approach simply was not working.
