At RISD, “ugly painting” was a thing. There was a certain kind of fatigue during the late 90s “graphic design” era of art. It was a “fuckit” feeling and kinda thrilling I’m really excited about this show @deankissick

These people are all obsessed with pointing out things that are ugly/dumb but also 'brilliant' (whatever that means). They've lost the thread so thoroughly that some of the most polished artists of all time might as well be freakish outsiders to them.
