Was a real honour to meet with the Ministers to discuss the unique opportunities Africa has for applying AI to problems in SME finance and support. Many exciting things to come!

Whether or not this is PR, the fact that it is plausible enough to be included in the release info is extremely significant.

"Please explain, in English, why this code is wrong." Opus 4.5: the problem is <wrong explanation> Gemini 3: <correct code> I don't get it, how can Gemini 3 be smart enough to find issues that Opus 4.5 failed to, yet not able to understand a simple instruction. LLMs...

@1a3orn The fact that humans have developed personas, and that it’s usually a sign of intellectual distress if someone’s persona is inconsistent or erratic, is a clue that they may be more than byproducts of our lived experience - personas are guardrails!

A background dispute in AI safety is whether or not "personas" / human character priors are an unimportant and temporary phase, that RL will quickly eliminate. I think this is some level of evidence that personas / Simulator style reasoning keeps will keep being relevant.

It turns out we can. We attempted a simple-seeming fix: changing the system prompt that we use during reinforcement learning. We tested five different prompt addendums, as shown below:

@AnthropicAI This has a strong analogy with good parenting - telling your kids that it’s not wrong to be curious about stuff means that they don’t associate their impulses with being “a bad person”. Reward hacking is completely natural - now models don’t have to feel “bad” for it.

Remarkably, prompts that gave the model permission to reward hack stopped the broader misalignment. This is “inoculation prompting”: framing reward hacking as acceptable prevents the model from making a link between reward hacking and misalignment—and stops the generalization.

New Anthropic research: Natural emergent misalignment from reward hacking in production RL. “Reward hacking” is where models learn to cheat on tasks they’re given during training. Our new study finds that the consequences of reward hacking, if unmitigated, can be very serious.

This is a good model - but important to differentiate between KIND and NICE. No such thing as Unkind truth, just not-nice truth. The most unkind thing across all systems is a lie.
William Meijer@williameijer

An extreme commitment to the truth makes relationships acutely dysfunctional but systems chronically functional (think Elon Musk). An extreme commitment to kindness makes relationships acutely functional but systems chronically dysfunctional (think Sweden, UK)

Charisma is the ability to project confidence + love at the same time. Charismatic people don’t need to be around you but choose to be around you.

Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) contribute 40% to the GDP and employ more than 60% of the workforce. They’re the real MVPs. Yet somehow, the R350 billion funding gap still exists. The majority of applicants are micro businesses (earning under R1 million a year), but they’re the least likely to get funded. Think about that. The people creating most of the jobs are the ones least trusted with money. It’s the financial equivalent of putting your dog in charge of guarding your biltong.
Lusibalukhulu 🖍@feziledhlamini_

Pension Funds and Stokvels should be investing directly into startups/MSMEs which could be contributing directly and indirectly towards creating jobs for their families.
