Steven Soderbergh sat down with me to discuss his favorite films—from DO THE RIGHT THING to FARGO, PHANTOM THREAD, JAWS, and LOST IN TRANSLATION—for @letterboxd, and ended up sharing his theory that we reached peak cinema at the end of New Hollywood: boxd.it/2YK

Some people are asking how they are going to deal with the game’s divergent endings. Well it’s probably in the same that Larian did. By choosing one pathway and ignoring the others. Yes I am still bitter about Viconia’s BG2 redemption story being rejected. Why’d you ask?
Geoff Keighley@geoffkeighley

Baldur’s Gate is set to become a TV series at HBO, helmed by Craig Mazan from The Last of Us. Show will continue the story of Baldur’s Gate 3 and those characters. No word on Larian’s involvement or not. (Source: @deadline)

The funniest thing about 28 years later is that the rest of the world just went uhm anyway and carried on as normal while the Brits live in hell.

Mark Kermode begins his review of Die, My Love by saying that Lynn Ramsey got career best performances from Samantha Morton (Morven Caller), Joaquin Phoenix (You Were Never Really Here) and Tilda Swinton(!) (We Need To Talk About Kevin) It’s a bold claim but I think he’s right.

I can only speak from my experience of teaching film at university but I have noticed a couple of things. Probably most importantly, I think while some say that people watch the “old masters” less I have noticed more love for non-English language films (outside of usual suspects)

uncs of film twitter: what are some movies that are canonical now but were basically unknown when we were coming up? like Come and See or Possession. inversely: what are some movies or filmmakers that seem to have fallen off? (Takashi Miike comes to mind)
