🔚: there is more than meets the eye!!! 🟢 The relation of #NMP & inflammation is complex 🟢 Severity of ischemic injury & timing of NMP may affect inflammation “on-pump” 🟢 Early NMP may better preserve DCDs. 🔜 the next study? Inflammation in continuous ↔️ end-ischemic NMP!

💡Main takeaways: 1️⃣ Pre-existing injury, especially WI, affects inflammation during NMP 2️⃣ Continuous #liverNMP reduces inflammation even with severe WI injury 3️⃣ Unlike in end-ischemic NMP, where pro-inflammatory cytokines peak early and are higher in DCD than DBD livers 7/n

➡️ 🧪In our 2nd study, @JorisBlondeel procured 🐷 livers either immediately or after 60’ warm ischemic injury. All livers underwent #NMP for 6h followed by WB-NMP for 12h to simulate a transplant. Perfusate pro- & anti-inflammatory cytokines were measured and compared. 5/n

💡Main takeaways: 1️⃣ Reoxygenation during NMP triggers inflammation "on-pump" even w/short ischemic injury 2️⃣ but #liverNMP effectively reduces inflammation 3️⃣ The signature of this inflammation differs from that of IRI 🧐 Does this apply with severe pre-existing injuries? 4/n

📊 Results: 1️⃣ An inflammatory response occurs during #liverNMP but it's less intense than in WB-NMP 2️⃣ Contrary to what expected in liver #IRI, cytokines increase progressively until the end of NMP 3️⃣ NMP shifts the balance in favor of anti-inflammatory cytokines within 30' 3/n
