Enjoying the last quiet hours with the Mrs. before boarding a plane to Lisbon. 10 days to build something I've been thinking about for months. Can't stop thinking about it actually. See you on the other side 🇵🇹

@Mount_Zion438 It’s wild it’s only so clear now. It’s like - why did you use a crane to construct that building? Because it’s safer, faster and easier.

@NicholasKatz Exactly 💯 It's not about whether AI built your product or not, for investors. Just solve a problem and show results that your product is actually moving the needle.

Investors don’t care how your product was built. If AI built your product and users still show up… Congrats. That’s what matters. Code is cheap. They fund: – distribution & traction – revenue acceleration & durability – retention & compounding data moats AI didn’t replace founders. It exposed who never was one. #fundraising #vc #ai

time to revisit two conversations: 1. raising capital that underwrites to $50-100M exits 2. profit share investing AI makes it hard to see how most software companies become decacorns. too easy for competitors to emerge. but there will be tons of great products built by teams with real insight on product and experience. they'll be great businesses. they'll get acquired...and they should be funded too.

Observation: most people talking about Engineering are optimizing for narrative. the operators are optimizing for compounding advantages.

Your success or failure at fundraising for anything is 50% market timing and 50% strength of storytelling. Might even be 60/40.

When I was a founder, every VC fund looked identical. Same landing page, same language, zero transparency into how they actually worked or what they actually believed. I couldn't figure out who was aligned with what I was building. So we're doing something about it: we're open-sourcing our investor updates. Same document our LPs get, fully public, nothing redacted. We hope by being transparent we can build trust with the best people to join our mission. Future founders who will build generational companies right here in Europe and future community members who will support them. We just published the first one. Let me walk you through it. ❤️🔥🇪🇺

@TimHaldorsson Happy to take robo taxis in the burbs before they figure out those narrow cobblestone streets and random closures! But yes would be very pumped. Alas, probably too small a TAM to be cared about for quite a while 😢

@willkramer @t_blom YC and others in the valley will naturally be the most pronounced version of this globally. UK/Europe isn’t quite so hardcore but only a few shades less so, though many UK investors still seem to want to see near similar levels.

@NicholasKatz @t_blom You expect a startup selling to Fortune 500s, raising a seed round, to already have Series A level revenue? I suspect some startups are claiming Series A metrics while hoping investors are doing seed level diligence.

Two years ago, a good YC demo day target was $150k of annualized revenue. In my group office hour today, the lowest demo day target was $800k, and most companies were aiming for $1-2m.

@willkramer @t_blom I don’t necessarily expect this, but all VCs now seem to, so as an investor who follows but doesn’t lead - unfortunately I follow the herd mentality. And as a fractional CIO I just have to operate and support my cohort of CEOs based on what the capital markets are telling us.

I’m seeing a lot of £2-3m rounds with <£500k ARR just not closing right now in UK/Europe. Not a quality problem. A growth bar problem. <10% MoM → stalls 10-20% → grindy 20%+ → competitive processes The bar has quietly moved.

AI companies raised more capital in Q1 2026 than in all of 2025. More charts: a16z.news/p/charts-of-th…

Most buildings feel manageable on their own. Then you step into something like an airport. Dozens of buildings Systems installed decades apart What worked in one building doesn’t translate cleanly to the next. #PropTech
