Putins Schattenkrieg unter Wasser ist längst da Mehr als einen Monat lang haben Großbritannien und Norwegen russische Unterwasseraktivitäten im Nordatlantik verfolgt. Laut London war ein Akula-U-Boot wohl nur der Ablenker, während spezialisierte GUGI-Einheiten in der Nähe kritischer Unterwasserinfrastruktur operierten. Also genau dort, wo Europas verwundbarste Lebensadern liegen: Datenkabel, Energieverbindungen, Pipelines. Noch gibt es in diesem Fall keine bestätigten Schäden. Aber genau das ist der Punkt: Russland testet, tastet, kartiert, provoziert. Das ist Grauzonenkrieg. Kein offener Angriff. Keine Schlagzeile mit Explosionen. Sondern das systematische Ausloten, wie weit man gehen kann, bevor Europa reagiert. Putin führt diesen Krieg nicht erst dann, wenn Kabel durchtrennt werden. Er führt ihn schon dann, wenn seine Spezialkräfte unsere Schwachstellen vermessen und unsere Reaktionsfähigkeit testen. Die richtige Antwort darauf ist nicht Beschwichtigung, sondern Härte: mehr maritime Überwachung, besserer Schutz kritischer Infrastruktur, engere Zusammenarbeit der europäischen Staaten und die klare Botschaft, dass Russland nicht im Verborgenen agiert. Very precise strikes by russian fiber optic drones on a ukrainian 155mm 2S22 Bohdana. After the first 3 strikes damaged the gun, engine and loader, the fifth(and possibly one in between aswell) set fire to it.

We cannot simply speak about withdrawing from Donbas as a matter of compromise. Our withdrawal from Donbas would open up opportunities for the Russian Federation to occupy our most fortified territories without losses. Some people say it would take a year to a year and a half to build new fortifications. But everyone forgets: first and foremost, that is a year and a half. And even if it were less, fortifications in an open field are a completely different matter from those in urban areas. They can never provide equally strong protection. A withdrawal would give the Russian Federation room for large-scale maneuver. They could advance either toward Kharkiv or toward Dnipro, destroying our cities. And two major cities would be at risk – cities that, incidentally, generate a significant share of our GDP. So many people have died there… The morale of our army would certainly decline. There would undoubtedly be a rift in society. The army – which would surely not support such steps – on one side, and society on the other. And division within society is precisely what Putin is aiming for. Moreover, there are currently 200,000 people living in the territories of Donbas that we are defending. Withdrawal does not mean preserving anything. You leave, and without any guarantees, you risk losing everything. And that is a major risk. From an interview with Rai Radio 1 (2/3).

This hits hard, the Russian’s stole our family home. I now see it on satellite imagery and for the past 4 years, occupied, lived in by someone else. My wife lost her retirement, her memories, her life before this war. So spare me the talk of ‘easy deals’ and ‘quick peace’, at some point you make a stand.
