it’s no coincidence that the best superhero films have been self-contained stories. Raimi’s Spider-Man, The dark Knight trilogy, Reeves Batman. They all work because everything is operating in service of the immediate story. There’s no outer universal continuity to worry about.

So many superhero movies are lacking in identity because they are used as “set up” for the next story or a “resolution” to the last one. Too much going on for anything meaningful to develop imo. And then at the end everybody who is no longer relevant conveniently “disappears”
