When did “Jew” become a bad word? “Dirty Jew” “Fucking Jew” “Jew” When did people start saying the word with such venom? With such a hateful tone? When did people start saying it in such a way, as to suggest that Jewish people were somehow different? Were a lesser people? Were not human? Has it always been this way and I’m just noticing it since Oct 7? Or they were only doing it amongst themselves? Is this how people referred to Jews in Nazi Germany? In other parts of the world during World War II? Is this what the Canadian government called us when they said “none is too many”? Is this how police and government officials talk about us now, as they allow the Jew-hate demonstrations in their streets? For a while, they tried to water it down by calling us “Zionists”. Maybe they couldn’t get as much hatred behind that word, as it didn’t last long. Most of them have reverted back to calling us “Jews”. How much hatred must people possess to say the word the way they do? Do they not realize, that the way they say the word doesn’t change who we are? Do they not know that no matter how much hate and vitriol they put into the word, it doesn’t break our spirit? Are they too ignorant to know that their words say much more about them, than they do about us? Calling us a “dirty Jew” does not make us dirty. It exposes the dirt that’s inside of you. Calling us a “fucking Jew” does not make us any less of a human than anyone else. It exposes your own personal deficiencies. Saying the word “Jew” with hate and venom, does not make us evil. It demonstrates the evil in your heart that could allow you to hate us the way you do. Spewing your vile and hate and venom and vitriol at us, does not make Jews any less proud to be Jews. I’m about to get married, and my fiancé knows I have an inheritance that was left to me by my grandparents. It’s in my name only, and I’ve been saving it for years.
