Excited to share the bulk of my thesis work available online today @CancerCell. We sought to dive into the tumor microenvironment of sarcomatoid renal cell carcinomas to better understand what makes RCC tumors susceptible to immunotherapy: sciencedirect.com/science/articl… 1/n
Sarcomatoid RCC is a rare kidney cancer that is hyper-aggressive yet preferentially responsive to checkpoint blockade. We performed scRNAseq, spectral flow cytometry, and spatial transcriptomics on human sRCCs and ccRCCs, with validation by RNAseq of >3,000 RCC tumors. 2/n
Could not be more proud of @NickSalgia who gave a stellar thesis defense yeserday in front of a packed house (incl outside reader @BraunMDPhD). Nick worked with me at @cityofhope for two years where (as a premed!) he developed a masterful understanding of #kidneycancer dx/tx. As an MD/Phd candidate at @Jacobs_Med_UB, he joined the lab of @JasonMuhitch at @RoswellPark & became an expert in #sarcomatoid RCC biology. Although we did celebrate w #buffalowings (my request), we capped the evening back in his lab (his request) with a lengthy chat about future directions.
