loved @Wesley_Morris jumping in on @BillSimmons Hollywood MVP game during the BS Pod and coming up with a very strong answer for 2009. I’ve gone back and tracked 50 years of MVPs (minimum 2 films in the calendar year to qualify).

@NextBestPicture Don’t Look Up is last (and it is not even close). I’d listen to any reasoning for ranking all of the others any which way.

@SeanFennessey 2015 perhaps doesn’t precisely meet your criteria, but it was the last time the aggregated popularity of the nominees was this high (The Martian, Fury Road, The Revenant)

@rBillSimmonsPod Lowe was also a horrendous Rewatchables guest. He picked a movie he didn’t even like that much!

@Variety People can still apologize for harm caused accidentally or through action in the absence of control. He doesn’t apologize. This is a pathetic characterization where he starts by turning himself into a victim.

"I Swear" subject John Davidson, who has Tourette's syndrome and shouted the N-word at the BAFTAs while Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were presenting, speaks out amid controversy:
“I wanted to thank BAFTA and everyone involved in the awards last night for their support and understanding and inviting me to attend the broadcast. I appreciated the announcement to the auditorium in advance of the recording, warning everyone that my tics are involuntary and are not a reflection of my personal beliefs. I was heartened by the round of applause that followed this announcement and felt welcomed and understood in an environment that would normally be impossible for me. In addition to the announcement by Alan Cumming, the BBC and BAFTA, I can only add that I am, and always have been deeply mortified if anyone considers my involuntary tics to be intentional or to carry any meaning... I have spent my life trying to support and empower the Tourette’s community and to teach empathy, kindness and understanding from others and I will continue to do so. I chose to leave the auditorium early into the ceremony as I was aware of the distress my tics were causing.”

@TheCineprism Recent uptick in single word title winners bodes very well for Sinners!

@CinemaTweets1 The Oscar success (presumed in the case of OBAA) is an unfortunate continuation of the Academy’s history of awarding the greats too late. These are low to mid tier works for Nolan and PTA, relative to their own filmographies.

@Cine_vichaar Would make room for In Her Place (dir. Albert Shin) on this list.

This is the worst moment in @steelers history. The fans deserve better. For more than 5 decades, this team has been a beacon of excellence at the most important off field position in pro sports. This is an illogical and irresponsible change in course.

@OverDrive1050 @odognine2 This is exactly what a coach who couldn’t get it done in the playoffs would say about a player who can’t get it done in the playoffs.

Agree or disagree? 🤔
Bruce Boudreau says that Mitch Marner should receive the same ovation as Jonathan Toews did in his return to Chicago.

@amartinez_27 This is great! The real fans out there feel alienated by the way the media landscape is shifting. There is way too much emphasis on gambling and hot takes and lists and such, as opposed to good old fashioned analysis. Good luck!

Hi guys! So in retirement I’ve had the opportunity to watch a lot more hockey, especially from a fan’s perspective rather than an active player. Between that and doing some broadcasting, I’ve been toying with an idea to help (hopefully) grow the game. If you’ve tuned into the VGK or Chicago broadcasts, I’ve done it a little bit in the intermission or pre/postgame shows, but I’m thinking of doing some video breakdowns of particular goals or plays that highlight the little things that make the biggest difference. I certainly don’t know everything, but I do know that these little things are often times the difference between winning and losing. My goal is twofold - first, to highlight and showcase the talent in the NHL that goes unnoticed, doesn’t show up on the scoresheet, or isn’t necessarily reflected through the traditional categories of skill i.e. skating, passing, stickhandling or shooting. (There’s a lot of it!) Second, I’d like to help educate the average fan so they can appreciate the game a little more when they watch it. Other than hockey, football is my favorite sport and I’ve always enjoyed watching the @danorlovsky7’s, @BaldyNFL’s, and @gregcosell’s of the world while they explain the “why” in a particular play. I’ve recorded one already and will post it soon. While I’m still getting used to the technology and figuring out some things as I go, I hope people enjoy it and if they do, I can continue to do more. Thanks!!

@AdamSchefter The altercation between @Lj_era8 and a fan earlier this season was more significant, in terms of the physical contact, and there was no suspension.

NFL will review this altercation for potential discipline.

@DiscussingFilm Unsurprising that the man who refused Juror No. 2 a proper theatrical release (despite everything Eastwood has done for @warnerbros ) and has shelved Horizon Part II (from @modernwest ) would orchestrate a deal with @netflix . This is a tragic, dark day for art and for America.
