Most telling thing screamed in that video is “traitor.” So much rhetoric around that journalists (and others) aren’t patriotic enough, hate their country, aren’t “British” enough. It’s crass, it’s stupid and it’s grim. And grim people and even not grim people take it in.

It’s not the whole story but fevered rhetoric in public life has consequences. All too common now for some (in politics and media) to consistently and caustically brand journalists (especially certain types of journalists) as not liking you, not speaking for you, lying to you etc
