Sharing, with pride, considerate, constructive measures @WIeconomics PhD students have raised in protection of current and future scholars. Institutions may well fear transgressions of due process in the course of seeking justice. To that: here is an object lesson in due process.

Five quick #rstats tips I've picked up in the plots I've made for the first category of the #30DayChartChallenge 🧵👇 1. Need to plot a million points and ggplot() is taking too long but you want to stay within the tidyverse? 👉 Use 📦{scattermore} with geom_scattermore() 🥳

6 years ago I joined a 20-person startup. I wanted to quit after my first week, but I didn't. Now our company is worth over $1B and has 200+ employees. Here's what I've learned about succeeding at a startup:

@biancafrogner @biancafrogner Together with offering great personal appreciation for your entire thread here, I'm extremely glad for your sharing the value of counseling. I benefitted from them during grad school, and would (and have) recommended to everyone to gain perspective and tools.

Simultaneously, I experienced a major breakup. A good friend encouraged me that everyone needs help sometimes and to take advantage of free counseling through the Student Assistance Program (SAP). Many universities offer it & I highly recommend it! 3/15

The promotion to full professor is official! I’m proud to be one of the few multi-racial female non-MD tenured professors at a med school. 🙃 I wanted to share some of my major bumps along the way and lessons learned, hoping it may help someone out there struggling today. 1/15

@rodrikdani Indeed! The nature of econ research often makes it an individual process: no need for collaborators as in other fields, and academia incentives attribution over collaboration. Add scarce time, and there's major mentorship problems, worst of all in welcoming/developing new talent.

Second, the field is hierarchical. Even if you are in the right networks, you feel you are constantly being ranked. As a result even top economists are a weirdly insecure bunch. This self-absorption reduces the generosity & mentoring that junior members of the profession receive.

There’s been much discussion in recent days about Economics’ race problem. Some of what has come out is quite disturbing. I have not said much, but I have listened and thought. Here are a few reflections I want to add. +

Too bad, but #blacklivesmatter per its core organization @Blklivesmatter just torpedoed itself, with its full-fledged support of #defundthepolice : "We call for a national defunding of police." Suuuure. They knew this is non-starter, and tried a sensible Orwell 1984 of saying,
