Indeed, we investigated disease burden and its hypothesized drivers from the literature (e.g., rural poor livelihoods) using a modeling approach that accounts for other variables (going beyond a simple correlation analysis).

@NicoleNovaBio @humbertodebat @TheLancetPlanet Poverty (or rural poor areas) dont drive environmentally mediated infectious diseases. We cannot say this out of correlation. In fact, in reality they carry the most burden of such diseases. I had to read and reread your paper to make it clear for me.
