"My meaning may be learned from Homer; he, you know, feeds his heroes at their feasts, when they are campaigning, on soldiers' fare; they have no fish, although they are on the shores of the Hellespont, and they are not allowed boiled meats but only roast,"

Quite a day and I’m only 12 hours in!Widowed aunt called in distress a little after 4:00am. Boogied over, pulse ox 35-36, all fingers, pulse 56, cranked little machine only makes 5L, 911. Quality ER time, admitted, stable. Uncle (her brother) relieved me on watch. Ran chores, calf with pinkeye and scours. Roped on pasture (carpenter, not cowboy), antibiotics, scours bolus, irrigated and patched eye, isolated. Neighbors daughter called, her mom burned her foot with boiling apple concoction, wondered if I had any home remedy, sounded first degree. Happened to have some large aloe Vera leaves on hand, went over, applied and blew on foot, claims better except when I touch it, lol. I did the army medic thing as an emtp, mostly as a floor tech in a level one trauma center. We were busy, in a metro. With no real “bag”, ekg, lab or cardiologist on hand, I load and go. The county first responders did well with my aunt. I moved the furniture out of their way before they got there and they were courteous and competent. The ER was slow, I sat in the room throughout the work up. They did well as well. I tricked the cow herd after the move creating a temporary alley to the corral, shade and water. We’ve been wet, pushing 90 today, good for disease, flys and muck making. Cutting the numbers on field made field treating the calf “safer” and reduced (my) stress. I don’t honestly know if Aloe Vera works for burns. Mrs nurse swears by salt for 1st degree, idk. Think the theory is it sucks the water out preventing 2nd degree (blister). AI says it’s contradicted, I do cold water or nothing at all unless there are chunks coming off. I’ve changed clothes once today, currently stink but afraid to clean up as it might trigger some tragedy.

@twistall They’re born snow white, they have their black markings;spots, masks etc… the tans and coppers come in as the white fades to blue-gray. Her parents were both very dark. Cunning perhaps, ornery for sure.

as hard as it is in today's mating markets, it could bee worse
Anish Moonka@anishmoonka

A male bee mates for less than 5 seconds in midair. The ejaculation is so explosive you can hear it pop from a few feet away. His body rips in half. He falls dead before hitting the ground. And he is one of the lucky males in the hive. When a male bee, called a drone, chases down a queen mid-flight at speeds of 22 miles per hour, his entire reproductive organ turns inside out. The pressure required for this comes from nearly all the blood in his body, which rushes downward to force the organ outward like a spring. The semen fires into the queen with so much force it makes the audible pop. The organ then snaps off and stays lodged inside her like a cork. As he flips backward off her body, his abdomen rips open. The next drone waiting his turn has to physically yank out the dead male's cork before he can mate. The same thing then happens to him. The queen does this 12 to 20 times in a single afternoon. She flies up to a spot in the sky that beekeepers call a drone congregation area. Picture an invisible meeting point about 50 to 130 feet above the ground where up to 11,000 male bees from as many as 240 different hives are hovering, waiting for her. These spots stay in the exact same locations year after year, sometimes for over a decade. No one fully understands how brand new drones, born only weeks earlier, find them. By the end of her mating run, the queen has collected around 100 million sperm cells. She keeps only 5 to 6 million in a tiny internal storage organ that keeps them alive for years. From that supply, she uses just two sperm cells per egg for the rest of her life, laying up to 2,000 eggs a day for 2 to 7 years. After that one afternoon in the sky, she will never mate again. A 2019 study from UC Riverside, the University of Copenhagen, and the University of Western Australia found that bee semen contains toxic proteins that temporarily blind the queen by interfering with how vision genes function in her brain. If she can't see well, she can't fly out again to mate with more males. Their semen also carries a separate protein that attacks and kills sperm cells from rival drones still inside her. The males keep competing long after every one of them is dead. The 99.9% of drones who never get to mate have it worse. As autumn arrives, the female worker bees in the hive stop feeding their brothers, then drag them out of the entrance after biting off their wings. The drones can't fly back in. They starve or freeze in the grass within days. The colony raises a fresh batch of disposable males the next spring, and the whole cycle starts over.

@ishirubi This breed is a little notorious for eating cats in my experience, might get her cat food that way. Socializing early in hopes of avoiding that.

Here’s a test: can Chinese delivery drivers afford to get food delivered themselves when it’s their time off? If not, Chinese convenient delivery is more like having servants…convenient but only for the elite. If everybody can afford them including the drivers themselves then its possibly just another convenience made possible by technology and modern logistics. And I actually don’t have the answer to that question.
Rafael R. Guthmann@GuthmannR

That actually depends on a LOT of factors. If it's cheap delivery relative to typical incomes it means high productivity in food delivery services which in turn means prosperity. If it's cheap relative to elite incomes it might just mean high level of inequality where unskilled workers make much less than specialized professionals (which does not necessarily imply in lack of prosperity, but it is statistically correlated with it).

Just made this little rail a couple weeks back to protect those little flowers from the last dog. 4” max space was adequate before the Tasmanian devil hybrid with no square corners insists on this, twice, rather than flop down the steps. Good girl, go potty.

@AskBryan Heavy center fire rifle rounds will penetrate several interior walls, some exterior. Sounds boomer of me but a short 12 with BB would make your point and reduce the risk of killing your neighbor. You do need to practice reloading… other guy may have 15+ rounds.

Also question I live in urban realm. It’s mad danger out here. I feel these pistols are in no way ever going to help. What should I have in my apartment? Lever action 30-30 kinda serve all purpose no? Hang it right there on the wall for its beauty. Semi-Auto 12 gauge?

James got a new dog. Didn’t catch the pic of him holding his paw on the pupper so it must not have happened. Jimmy was a “two Tom kittens included with the dog” deal. I would prefer this one not grow up a cat killer.
