The acquisition of land for Oxford’s new 5km flood relief channel has been signed off. The Environment Agency had applied for a Compulsory Purchase Order for the Oxford Flood Alleviation Scheme. Construction will start in late 2026.

@Oxford_Labour And ironically they are propping up the party which dreamt up the LTNs which they so strongly oppose and which electors voted for them to get abolished. Crazy stuff but also cynical and damaging to faith in local politics

Only voted in as Independents two weeks ago - so much for integrity and the outsider vibe. Now they’ve joined the Tories. Both former Labour City Cllrs, before going Indy. What next go Lib Dems? Go Green? Get a full house? I wonder how their electors feel tonight.

@OxfordCity The point about public confidence is vital. This project will mean a 3 year plus closure if the plans are kept to. I hope Thames Water and Network Rail will consider compensation for local businesses in this unique case. They are suffering a lot for us all to have a good station.

Understand Brookes assessing damage this morning at Headington Hill where road closed. Hopefully they will be able to clear the trees and debris later - trees fell from their land.
