@JohnBarentine Go check out the Griffith and ask them about their outdoor lighting. They are clueless.

Good morning from sunny Los Angeles. Last night we were in Hollywood, and the only stars were on the Walk Of Fame. I could literally see none anywhere in the night sky.

The ongoing need to educate municipal planners and engineers about outdoor lighting is evidenced by this example, which an engineer in a meeting just now tried to convince me is a good way to light a street.

@JohnBarentine I was just in TUS yesterday and saw 3 horrific bright lights about 1 mile SW of the airport. Hopefully they are temporary. As I fly in from time to time, it seems to be creeping closer to Kitt Peak. Overall though, TUS still is far better than my explosive growth in Utah.

And some views of our not terribly overlit downtown streets taken during our data-collecting run last night.

@chucksastropho1 Nice work! Any chance a process video? I can’t seem to get my prominences to show up without a composite.

@AstroBackyard You are correct Trevor. Dr Barentine who helped in this study says the article got it all wrong.

Interesting Study from Tuscan. Here in Niagara, I'm convinced a single greenhouse changes the bortle class of an area when it's lit up. Surprise finding: Streetlights don’t cause much light pollution. Here’s what does fastcompany.com/90570420/surpr…

When working on night sky advocacy, it’s important to explain your artificial lighting techniques. This pano was shot with illumination to match the intensity of the Milky Way core. That way a single shot can be taken that properly exposes the foreground equally with the stars

No blue sky in Tucson today. Smoke from the California wildfires has turned our skies a pale dusty-gray and the sun a faded orange. Absorption of light in the air, by suspended smoke particles, is about 6.5 times higher today as compared to a typical clear day. #wx #azwx

M101 - At an estimated 1,000,000,000,000 stars in this galaxy, I can only imaging the complexity here in this 4 hours of 3 minute sub from our Mead 130mm. It is estimated that the light from one end to another of this face on spiral takes over 170,000 years to travel across it.
