At nearly 5.7 %, electric cars are at a historic high wrt market share in India. West Asia war effect? April 2026 EV sales was led by Tata Motors, with 8,507 units while Mahindra and JSW-MG managed 2nd and 3rd with 5,394 units and 4,978 units respectively. Vinfast and Maruti are in a battle for 4th place. Vinfast has edged ahead with 1,231 units, showing massive month on month growth, even as Maruti is just 9 units behind at 1,222 units. In the larger scheme of things, status quo maintained. Maruti Suzuki leads April 2026 car sales, with 158,223 units. Tata Motors finishes 2nd with 57,472 while Mahindra retains 3rd place with 54,897 units. Hyundai and Toyota are 4th and 5th, with 47,345 and 26,779 units respectively. Car sales are down nearly 10 % month on month, but this is typical for April, a month that sees lower volumes because all the businessmen who wanted to buy have already bought in March.
