I have some great news. A parent at this tournament was so impressed by the performance of the chess in slums kids and they just committed to sponsoring the education of all 10 of them till they’re done with their University education.

Last week at #WHXLagos, we co-hosted a workshop on antimicrobial resistance (AMR), titled "Advancing Private Sector Action in Nigeria’s #AMR Response", in partnership with @NCDCgov,@drasatrust, and @Ducit_Blue, which explored how the private sector can drive Nigeria’s response to antimicrobial resistance. Here’s an overview video of the AMR Workshop👇

5 years ago this week, a pandemic was declared & most of the world went into lockdown. Those days were tough & a steep learning experience One good thing that came out of it: the many pandemic books including an excellent one on Nigeria’s response thanks to @Chikwe_I @VIhekweazu

Sincere thanks for the appreciation I received today at the ongoing 156th session of @WHO Executive Board in #Geneva. What an immense privilege it has been to lead @WHO in the African region. It has been an honour to work alongside dedicated colleagues, partners and communities committed to making a lasting impact. To our Member States, I extend my heartfelt thanks. Your courage, resilience and determination have inspired me every day. Over the past decade, we have worked side-by-side to strengthen health systems and advance universal health coverage, to expand access to care. We have celebrated groundbreaking milestones To our partners, none of our successes would have been possible without you. Your technical and financial support and our joint action have been instrumental in driving innovation and impact. To @DrTedros, my deepest gratitude for standing beside me throughout this journey. Finally, to our staff – the heartbeat of the Organization. Whether in country offices, at the regional level or on the frontlines of outbreaks, you have made a significant difference in the lives of millions. However, the challenges ahead remain significant. But I am confident that the strong foundations we have built together will enable @WHO to continue making a difference. Thank you for the support, collaboration and the shared vision that continue to drive our progress. It has been the honour of a lifetime!

Strengthening Nigeria's ability to prevent, detect, and respond to health emergencies is essential for safeguarding citizens and advancing global health security. Today, Nigeria launched the National Action Plan 2.0 for Antimicrobial Resistance and the National Genomics Surveillance Strategy—both critical initiatives aim to reduce the risks posed by infectious diseases and #AMR, enhancing the nation’s health security. This is so painful to watch. For some of us from regions where the COVID-19 pandemic was not this harrowing, we should stop to ask ourselves, "What if...?" WE must work together as a world to prevent the next pandemic. The #Ubuntu and #Igwebuike philosophies should be at the heart of our preparedness. @who @DrTedros @AfricaCDC @JeanKaseya2 @chrischirp @TheIndPanel @HelenClarkNZ
