How can you “kill” the competition? Short answer: just wait. They’ll quit, and you’ll be the last one standing. You win! Sounds too easy? Let me tell you a story. When I finished design school, I wasn’t the best or most talented designer among the graduates. Some got better jobs, some got bigger clients, but 10 years after graduation only about 10% of the people who studied with me were still in design. Some had their interest move them to a different industry, some burnt out, some just got bored. Here’s another example: When I started my YouTube channel 10 years ago, the biggest channel in web design and development was called “DevTips.” It had about 100k subscribers at the time. Travis was my inspiration for how big a design YouTuber can get, and the video we did together was a milestone for me. Then, 7 years ago, Travis got tired of the channel and sold it. I continued to create and just crossed the one million subscriber mark. Back when I started, I didn’t even feel this was possible! You might have heard the quite famous fact that most podcasts don’t make more than 3 episodes before quitting. Last example: After releasing The Webflow Masterclass in 2018, every time I saw someone else launching a Webflow course I got super nervous. “Oh no! It’s newer, and they are more talented than me, and it’s cheaper, and they cover a topic I don’t cover, I’M DOOMED!” Seven years later, 90% of these courses are dead, and 100% of them were never updated while we kept releasing a new version of the course almost yearly. The secret? I just kept at it. For me, “keeping at it” means only 2 things: 1. Trying to be a bit better today than I was yesterday; 2. Not giving up. That’s it!
