@KateMcGonigall Its repetitiveness it's both a blessing and a curse! And you're also right to change whenever you feel bored! In fact, I don't think I've ever met someone who completely finished an Assimil course.
English

@NoKristof I love Assimil, but it is boring, it's the repetative format. I have recently reevaluated the belief that if you start a resource you must finish it to the exclusion of all others. When I find assimil too boring, I am going to swap to something else for a week. Joy restored!

@lindiebee I was all alone as well 😅 I did the conversation exercises with a teacher. If I remember correctly, they also have a glossary as well as a "difficult words in context" doc, that was so useful because it was full of examples.
English

@NoKristof Do you use any additional supplemental material from MagyarOK? I found it a bit challenging since its all in Hungarian/since I don't have someone to encourage me to go through it day by day 😂
English

@lindiebee Bedankt! Jij bent degene die ons allemaal inspireert! Al zo lang bezig met talen! Chapeau!

@NoKristof Dang, Finnish, German and Hungarian! You picked all the hard ones 😎😎 good luck!! Je bent een inspiratie voor mij!

And the first language I studied in 2026 was... Polish!
What about you?

English

@NoKristof How about your other languages? Just maintenance?
Remind me what your mother tongue is?
English

@LanguagePat I'm about to do the same, no new language for me. I'll stick to Finnish & German as of now.
English

@NoKristof Thank you, Kristof. It’s always the same languages 😅. At this point, I don’t see myself choosing a new one (except for the dabbles). I just want to focus on the ones I already know and get them to the highest level possible. How about you? What are your languages for 2026?

For those who consider themselves language lovers/nerds/enthusiasts/learners/etc., did you have a bicultural/bilingual or multicultural/multilingual upbringing?
English

@NoKristof I know AI is used more and more in language learning but I'm not a fan of it as a replacement for people 😅 if I see an exercice I really want to do I might give it a try though
English

Working my way through a new Dutch textbook ~
I realised I took a long break from active studying and my vocabulary is so limited when it comes to subjects that are not directly related to my job
#langtwt

English

@ChaLanguages Perhaps an AI could help you with that? I know people who have full conversations with AI 😅
English

@NoKristof I'm enjoying it so far. It's definitely the type of textbook I've seen in a classroom setting in uni. The only downside is that there are quite a few exercices that are meant to practice in pairs, which I can't do haha
English

@LanguagePat Did you go to 🇭🇺 this summer? I've been learning a little bit of it each day for the past month w TY Hungarian & Assimil.
English

@lukielingual Yes! It's also happens to be the name of the best bakery in Liège 🧇
English

@lindiebee I'm so excited for you 🤩 ! If you're still in Hungary in beginning of July, I can definitely show your around! Also, if you have the time, make sure you visit the Lake Balaton, Pécs, Szeged and Sopron, these are my favourite places!
English

I was a bit afraid of starting this textbook bc it's quite old, but it has actually been really good for me. It was originally written in Swedish, only much later adapted to English for uni students, so it doesn't shy away from giving you very clear grammar explanations #langtwt
