We identified 22 strategies that in combination can support the transition of patients to safely leave the hospital and be connected with evidence-based medications for OUD. This is just the beginning of this work to better support continuity of care and reduce overdose risk

Was fun to be featured on @JAM_ASAM podcast on our paper on transitions of care for OUD (or lack thereof) among a national sample of hospitals! Hoping this brings awareness to the need to improve linkages following hospitalizations! @brivera @ZLindenfeld JiChang BerkeleyFranz

Kudos to the incredible team across the NYC Department of Health, NYC H+H Correctional Health Services, and our multiple academic partners that worked to put together this important study! 🙏

Moreover, we found those with no prior MOUD treatment, women, younger individuals and Black individuals were less likely to continue treatment upon release. These disparities point to the urgent need to invest resources in these groups and address systemic barriers to treatment.

Our new study shows that receiving #methadone and #buprenorphine in jail increases community treatment continuity by 2.6x! Still, <30% who receive medications behind bars continue tx upon release. Lots of work to do to reduce barriers and improve transitions of care upon reentry!
