Microtransactions are an excuse to give us boring games and ruin what could be fun games. Many give out $20,$40, or even $100 skins that can be taken away once a game shuts down. They made money before them, they don’t need them, people will buy them though

Does the anti-microtransactions crowd even like games??? Games have to make money for us to get more of them. It’s not “leave the billion dollar company alone”… It’s “I’d like a future with more of what I just enjoyed.”

@younghavok The difference is one can be done offline as long as you have the disc and the other runs on servers. I get what you’re saying though from a casual perspective.

Diminishing people wanting to own their games without the risk of losing them due to licensing, server shut downs, etc. while also killing the second hand and retail markets (except for code boxes) is baffling to me. Sorry we want pro consumer choices I guess…

OMG! The amount of whining over Sony's decision is genuinely embarrassing. You'd think they canceled food, water, and oxygen. Don't like PlayStation's direction? Keep your PS5 and your physical game collection. Nobody is forcing you to upgrade. Accept it and move on.

@chaosmare_ Stifling competition is shitty and shouldn’t be celebrated “lil bro” Especially when video games sell unique products unlike, for example, watches. I can get another watch from multiple places. There would only be one store I could get Spider-Man 3 from with this change.

After sitting with the Playstation news for a bit, I came to realize something… Isn’t what Sony is doing kinda illegal? They’re essentially creating a monopoly by gutting any market except the ps store. No competition. No competitive prices. Nothing. Seems illegal to me.

@IndependnTexan That’s the issue. Right now, if I don’t wanna pay full price for god of war ragnarok, I can go to target, Best Buy, GameStop, local game stores, eBay, etc. and have a chance to find it at a more affordable price. Digital completely removes that option as codes don’t go on sale.

How can their be an organically competitive market of a game exclusive to a single console? Markets arise from needed use cases. What use case is there for an exclusive game on a digital only console to be available to purchase from multiple/distinct digital storefronts on the same console? It doesn't make any sense.

Just wanted to share my collection. Sure, I get some digital games, but physical will always have a place. I’ve been collecting since GameCube/N64 days. A decent amount of this is from my childhood/teen years. Sony needs to learn this won’t go well.

@IndependnTexan There’s a big difference between getting a different kind of chocolate or a different kind of cookie compared to an experience (ex: Spider-Man 3) that would only be available on that platform and maybe codes from outlets that rarely go on sale, which means no competition.

@bearded_blerdd1 Never claimed to be as per my original post. Also, digital codes at retailers rarely, if ever, go on sale. If you can show those codes being on sale recently, I’d love to see it. You can claim it to “probably” have sales in the future as much as I can claim future events

The argument isn’t “when” it’s on sale the argument is “they have sales” just because the game you want is not on sale at the time doesn’t mean it’s not on sale Additionally, another location can still do a discount on digital items…so no it’s not illegal. I don’t think you’re educated on regulation D and how it works bro
