Remember that in Germany, entire special-forces units were disbanded by the government because they were found to be hotbeds of “far-right nationalism” and, in some cases, the soldiers were involved in planning coups against the government. I think, in the years to come, as repression grows even more, Europe’s militaries are going to be used more for internal policing than anything else. For that reason, maintaining elite special forces who are also patriots will be a huge liability European governments will want to avoid.
