Community in Mourning as Bright, Loving Boy Bobby Dunne, 11, Passes Away
An 11-year-old boy named Bobby Dunne, who was described by his family as a vibrant child full of personality and charm who "brought joy and laughter to everyone who knew him," has died unexpectedly.
Bobby, from Grogan in Ballycumber, Co Offaly, passed away on Saturday at Portiuncula University Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. The primary school pupil at Boher NS was the dearly loved son of Annalene and Brian Dunne, much-loved little brother of Jack, and treasured grandson of Mick and Jackie Tyrrell and Gemma Dunne. He was also a beloved nephew and cousin to several family members.
In their online death notice, the family expressed profound sadness, noting that Bobby was predeceased by his cherished grandfather Liam Dunne, who they believe will welcome him with open arms. Bobby reposed at his family home on Monday, with his funeral Mass held this morning (Tuesday) at 11am at St Manchan’s Church in Boher, followed by a private cremation.
The local community has been deeply affected by the loss. St Manchan’s Gaels Football Club cancelled their U16 training on Sunday as a mark of respect. Midland Warriors RFC also paid tribute, highlighting Bobby’s family connections to the club.
Mourners and friends have shared heartfelt messages, remembering Bobby as a "great character" who was always full of fun, bright, kind, and loving, with a smile that touched everyone around him.
