I learned the lessons of the Iraq war while working in the Bush Administration. Serious diplomacy is always the priority for me. I know Donald Trump and he wanted diplomacy to work in order to protect Americans and stop this constant Iranian threat. We’ve been in a generational cycle of terror and violence with the Iranian Regime planning and paying for the killing of Americans through their many proxy groups. Multiple U.S. Presidents were duped by the Iranian Regime and ended up *giving* them billions of dollars in cash, credit and sanctions relief. Their naive diplomacy fueled the Regime’s continued violence - with enough money to keep doing it for decades. Donald Trump is rightly focused on protecting Americans from this Regime. If there’s one thing we know about our President it is that his credible threats should be taken seriously - he said he wanted to solve this issue peacefully but would take action if necessary. He was very clear. I am thankful we have a President who takes the time to launch serious diplomatic efforts before making the hard and necessary decisions to protect Americans.

Twenty years ago we invaded Iraq. The war killed many innocent Iraqis and Americans. It destroyed the oldest Christian populations in the world. It cost over $1 trillion, and turned Iraq into a satellite of Iran. It was an unforced disaster, and I pray that we learn its lessons.
