1 - define ‘loaded’.
2 - take the State Pension off people, their income drops. Some drop from the 40% tax bracket, to the 20% bracket. Others just pay less tax too. Nation loses out
3 - pensioners have less to spend. National loses out.

You got significant tax relief on your mortgage payment through (MIRAS) in the 80s and 90s on a property which was far cheaper than homes today.

When I married in 1981 we both worked & most of our salary went on paying the mortgage as the interest rate was 15% at the time. Everything we owned was 2nd hand & we never went out for meals as we couldn’t afford to. We rented our TV Went to the launderette every weekend as had no washing machine. Only had new clothes at Xmas & birthdays as presents. We went without until we could save enough to pay for something. It’s always been hard whether you are young or old. So those out there that think we had it easy we didn’t. Our governments are to blame, not the old.

@shivmalik Dear Shiv, complain to the house builders. Supply is driven by them and their shareholders. If they build too many, they drive down prices, which front benefit their model. Oversupply kills them, under supply keeps them in business.

And yes if your children have flown the nest and you, or you and your spouse are knocking around in a 3 or 4 bedroom house you bought decades ago- SELL it.
