From my understanding most politicians are saying: Yes, illegal immigration is a problem, but leave it alone and don't do anything about it, because if you do something about it we'll have to solve more problems later that may concern you, so we don't want to deal with this because if we do, you'll keep holding us accountable for other issues.

Dr Sediko Rakolote (PhD) 🇿🇦
To label citizens who demand that their government fully enforce immigration laws without fear, favor, or prejudice as xenophobes, charlatans, extortionists, or lumpen elements is a misdiagnosis of the genuine safety, security, and sovereignty risks posed by porous borders. When government leadership fails to uphold its social contract with the people, it is inevitable that a leader will emerge from among the masses to champion their concerns. The Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Model cautions against relying solely on avoidance or competition when managing conflicts. Applying this framework, protests against illegal immigration should be approached with careful diagnosis and constructive interventions. Dismissing or threatening protestors through labels and or unleashing the mighty hand of the law on them not only undermines legitimate grievances but also escalates tensions. A balanced response by government and embassies requires acknowledging the citizens’ concerns, engaging in dialogue, and implementing fair solutions that strengthen both national security and social cohesion. Only then can conflict be transformed into an opportunity for trust-building and effective governance. Political rhetoric or sloganeering will not persuade the citizens to back down, because their demands are rooted in concrete lived realities rather than abstract words. When I arrived, the police couldn’t control the crowd. Others were even trying to go to Alberton. But when he arrived, he maintained order. You should see how desperate the youth are. To them, it felt like someone who could bring change and actually listen to their frustrations.

Update on Evacuation from South Africa. More than 800 Ghanaians have registered to be evacuated; Senior Government Officials on both sides engaging on South African legal conditions, passenger screening, managing the high numbers and multi-institutional coordination as we work on a new date for the evacuation.

We gave white food and a place to rest They invaded then oppressed us for over 300 yrs. today they lay claim over this land Then it was Zimbabweans bcz their country was unstable, today they claim theyve been here 15,17,20 yrs. they now laying claim to this land- using Mzilikazi, whilst rheirs is just next door Then it was Somalis, Ethiopians & Pakistanis - they have activated an invasion of our economy and installed their kings on our land - bribing politicians to invade us. Instad of getting economic freedom, we are being killed and pushed out of our own spaces Then Nigerians- who have infested us with drugs, human trafficking and also taking over the economy. Also now laying claim to this land. What crime did we commit ? Were we too nice? Too welcoming? Now that we are standing up and saying NO! we are xenophobic vigilantes? When will Native South Africans ever have peace and prosperity in their land? 3 centuries of fighting and dying, yet even today we must still fight?

This is a matter of legal enforcement, not xenophobia. Illegal immigration bypasses the statutory frameworks that govern our nation. As a sovereign state, our laws exist to be respected & we expect anyone residing here to adhere to the legal standards that apply to all.

Watching global news, I rarely see undocumented immigrants undermine & resist the rule of law in other nations the way they do here in South Africa. In most other countries, they quietly comply with local authorities & follow the rules. Here, 🇿🇦 the defiance is...😯🫨

The audacity of undocumented migrants is something else, hey. They behave as though the South African government invited them here. If they directed this same level of resistance & demand-making toward the leadership in their own countries, those nations would likely be thriving.
