Btw this could be a winnable by-election riding for Conservatives.
Wilkinson was personally popular but this has been a Conservative/Alliance riding in the past.
And Avi Lewis and the NDP are going to run very hard at any Lower Mainland riding there is a byelection in.
Avi may run himself.
CPC needs a really eye-catching candidate in this riding and dump $150,000 into the campaign.
It will be a close 3-way race.

This is incredibly disappointing - @JanetMillsforME certainly wasn't a perfect candidate given her age but she was the best option in the field.
I think @grahamformaine has brought energy to the race but his previous comments are still disqualifying of a US Senate seat.

@NolanWelshCA On my model with Abacus' numbers I have the libs winning 17/34 seats in the GTHA. Overall I have the PCs with 53 seats to the OLPs 49. So certainly not a bad result and an OLP premier would be almost certain.

Three things about Boulerice's move today:
1. I wish him the best. Quebec Soldaire is a respectable party, and I hope he brings them to new heights
2. He praised Avi on the way out, making it clear this move has nothing to do with the NDP
3. Him delaying leaving Parliament helps the NDP, because it gives them time to prepare a new candidate, and the by-election might happen in 2027 when Carney might be less popular

@BagelPolling Disagree. This is like Yvon Godin’s NB seat in the 2000s. Genetically Liberal seat went NDP on a fluke and then held due to the MP’s personal popularity. Returned to Liberal “normal” once Godin retired. Same thing here. NDP will not do well without Boulerice regardless of leader.

This will be the first real test of the Federal NDP under Lewis. If they cannot hold or at least do really well in this seat the party's toast.
