Some clarity surrounding the chest issue in patch 4 down below 👀
Tldr: What we were doing in dev to understand chest logic snuck into live. Patch 5 is moving to the polish stage and should be player facing exponentially sooner.
Thanks for being patient and see you in the 🐔
as im waiting on a delayed flight i wanted to take a moment to reflect on the journey ive had in web3. if you read this whole thing i am hopeful that you have a positive takeaway from it.
a few years ago i hated NFTs.
i didnt understand what the point was. being in tech my whole life it was almost impossible for me to wrap my head around. it was fear of the unknown.
part of my crypto portfolio included MANA which i purchased at the time without even realizing it was a live metaverse. a few months later that purchase had almost tripled. i searched Reddit and eventually ran into a YouTube video made by @PeanutbuttaDCL explaining what the metaverse was, all it took was clicking a link to jump in using your browser.
being unfamiliar with MetaMask, i jumped into Decentraland as a guest account & landed in the spawn point at the time called the Wondermine. rocks falling from the sky & characters running up to the rocks to "mine" them. wtf am i looking at.
que @XetaDcl. this mf ran across my screen and invited me to "teleport" to his land. he told me what to type in order to teleport. moments later we're standing in front of his building. in the metaverse. with all his work. in virtual frames... that you could walk up to and interact with.
the concept of an NFT started to hit me. everything in this virtual world was an NFT; a virtual asset, that SOMEONE owns, including the land we were standing on, the pictures he had of his work, each article of clothing everyone was wearing...
@PeanutbuttaDCL walks into the gallery. what? i was JUST watching this guy on YouTube. now hes standing a few feet away from me. the trip down the rabbit hole began. they taught me about MetaMask, OpenSea & how to interact with dApps & DEXs.
i "minted" MichaelK.eth. i couldn't believe it was available. i also at this time realized minting was confirming something i actually own in my wallet. i OWNED my own name as opposed to a centralized service like GoDaddy "owning" a domain a FOR me. the variables were starting to line up.
i was introduced to a collective in Decentraland called @LastSliceCo led by @lastraum & over time interacted with amazing members of the community from @AndrewMease@greenthumb1435@BerlinMaddoxo@category5music@NoodleBuilds@Nicole29Nixon@Kirzoz3D@PRguitarman to name a few, working on projects for NFTs & IRL brands.
virtual land in Decentraland was one of my first real "investments" in the space. there is a big difference i realized at this point between holding an NFT and making the NFT work FOR you AKA monetizing it.
leasing my land for events and creating experiences on it was the play. @greenthumb1435 introduced me to @Apes3D. i loved the project so much i decided to throw a metaverse party on my estate to bring more attention to it. i charged nothing. the event we threw brought the exposure needed to generate over 300 eth in sales while creating a unique community around it. i was ecstatic to provide a venue for someone to showcase their work. all done virtually, with people i never met in person & ideas that were created during those late night degen hours.
i scaled my initial investment of 1 land deed to 50 deeds, made an LLC to hold and continue monetizing the assets, while throwing live events for NFT projects including @ChibiLabs@REBEL_BOTS@tastytoastys@BelowBored, eventually landing Pay Per View/DAZN for the first official live PPV stream into the metaverse.
enter BAYC. one of those late nights on OpenSea activity led me to this project. floor price was 1 eth. the apes really resonated with me as an asset that i would not only love to have as art hanging in my home and on my merch, but as a way to monetize as a service or brand that was backed by an awesome community. i vibed in the Discord with @NGBxShpend and @Herb_Castillo then shortly after pulled up OpenSea, set price low to high, started scrolling and got my first BAYC for 2 eth. i had no fucking idea what was coming. no. fucking. idea.

@AwedJob Agreed! Architectural modelers are still finding their balance between their classical background of CAD/Technical designs and this new medium of game design. Social metaverse environments should focus on designated areas for community and interesting gamification above all else.
Why are many #virtual spaces built to closely resemble our #physical world? Visual cues do ground us in a kind of #reality. But a space virtual or physical ought to recede into the background. I don't go to a coffee shop to look at the light fixtures. I go to be with my friends.
5. Had the amazing opportunity to share the history of Decentraland (from an art director's perspective) during @trimarchidg with more than 6K attendees and a huge stage! 😬
