This year’s NPI cruise to the Fram Strait was ice-free as far north as 81°N. While this made our work easier, it's a stark reminder of the Arctic's future. With climate change accelerating, summer ice may vanish by 2040, drastically impacting the ocean. 🌊 @NorskPolar @nor_emso

A mooring was deployed from RV Kronprins Haakon at South Cape in May, to monitor methane release from pingos. ROV dives observed large quantities of methane entering the water column. The setup includes methane sensors, CTDs, and an ADCP. #noremso @UiTNorgesarktis @nor_emso

Fram strait glider Skuld just hit the 1300km mark! We usually expect our endurance gliders to last well over a year on deployment but because of the strong currents, numerous eddies and sea ice hazards in Fram Strait we'll consider it a success if Skuld makes 300 days 🥳🐬
