“If the psychoanalysts could only get the contemporary Hamlet on their couch, if they could only straighten out his Oedipus complex, his specific aboulia would vanish; he would stop shilly-shallying and push that nuclear button like a real man.” -Girard, Theatre of Envy

"Even the world state will not do away with violence, since it belongs to creation. War transforms into police actions of smaller and larger scale. With a monopoly on nuclear weapons insurrections have no potential, yet terror will increase." ~ Ernst Jünger

"What should we expect of a man who has spent twenty years of his life making pinheads? And to what can he henceforth apply that powerful human intellect that has often stirred the world, other than the search for the best way of making pinheads?" ~ Tocqueville

«En las construcciones de los juristas del Derecho romano de los siglos XIV y XV ya está completamente olvidada la unión entre el Imperio Cristiano y el Reino territorial, consagrada a la realización del Kat-echon. Bartolo [el jurista más influyente de todos los siglos] y los demás juristas y publicistas italianos del siglo XIV ya no poseen conocimiento alguno de que el Emperador tiene misión de Kat-echon». —Carl Schmitt

@Nord_Daub @Athens_Stranger @CarriePrejean1 He has a book on Leviathan where he understands Hobbes’s state of nature as a secular fallen nature, making it a pessimist view of anthropology, which Hobbes himself rejects when he explains his philosophy. He understands Hobbes but can’t liberate himself from his entrapment.

@Nord_Daub @CarriePrejean1 The problem with Schmitt is that he fundamentally misunderstands Hobbes and remains stuck within the thinking of liberalism from which he seeks to extricate himself

@CarriePrejean1 Completely false, and I could very easily and very happily provide an avalanche of citations where the founding fathers repeatedly and mercilessly trashed Roman Catholicism

The idea that the great man persists throughout the ages is one of the disasters of the democratic mind. The international businessman would not be a warrior or statesman in another era. Donald Trump is no Crassus, he would be a failed jester or highway robber.

“Today the sons of these opulent citizens are men of commerce, attorneys, doctors. Most have fallen into the most profound obscurity. The least trace of ranks and hereditary distinctions is destroyed; estate law has done its leveling everywhere.” -Tocqueville

Again, this misses the point. Nietzsche does not escape the modern condition. As Schmitt says, he resorts to marketing ploys, and Jünger that he is consumed by a totalising morality. The fact that we ascribe Nietzsche this status beyond democracy is, paradoxically, part of the
