I want to consider one of Nate’s allegations directly. “Among the large number of temporary residents who voted, many could not initially state their address when asked and defaulted to documentation.” 1) When you ask a person who does not speak English what their address is, you should not be surprised if they hesitate and point to their ID. 2) I personally saw many cases where a person did not understand what they were being asked and we had to call over a translator. 3) Just by making the allegation, he is admitting that the person had ID with the right address on it! 4) Unless I missed it, Nate never objected to temporary residents voting prior to the meeting and I expect he signed them up as well. If this line were coming from a Conservative, we would be calling it a dog whistle. #onpoli

Just an update - re: the Saturday nomination for the Ontario Liberal Party & Scarborough Southwest. The allegations from the Erskine-Smith team certainly concern Liberal staffers & MPPs I've talked to. I think the Party is greatly regarding the quick & swift "nope, nothing was wrong here" tone & statement of Sunday & Monday, as a HUGE misstep. Regardless of Erskine-Smith's leadership ambitions, it's my belief, now, based on a fair amount of digging....they will re-do this vote. They simply cannot move forward w/ Hafiz as the candidate with the process so under scrutiny, criticism, & conflict. If I'm Hafiz, I wouldn't want to. But, simply put, I'm me - he's him. It's not the easiest thing to throw a nomination win back into the water after landing it on your hook, I'd concede. HERE is the problem: he's Kryptonite now in a general race in that riding. He's Kryptonite for other MPPs - there's just too much there that implies not only an unfair process, but that Hafiz's team factors into the unfair process. It's organized incompetence....or it's incompetent organizing (they ARE different). If you're a Liberal MPP - are you spending your Saturday knocking doors for this guy? I don't think so. You can hope he loses & goes away - but it's not that simple now. They'll have to re-do the nomination - it's not a great look, but it's a worse look not to, & if I'm Erskine-Smith - I agree, don't run again there. Recuse yourself. But they KNOW how bad this is. The Party knows how internally dysfunctional this all looks & seems. You can be cooked a little by resetting the nomination process, or be cooked a lot by pretending this was legit. One of those two options makes a neutral voter recognize that YOU might have some self-reflection, the other just puts the football on the tee for a 4th-start caning in a provincial election.

@WeAreCanProud Tims Quality has gone down a lot and they stopped hiring Canadians. I don't drink coffee or eat donuts, but if Dunkin Donuts hires Canadian youth, with the staff closely representing the local population (my town is like 90% white), I will be, at minimum, a weekly customer.
