Yeah, of course individual preferences will always vary. We’re talking about trends, not absolutes. The point is that cultural context and systemic power dynamics heavily influence what tends to be more popular within different communities, and there are clearly significant differences between Eastern and Western societies in that regard. Individual preferences shouldn’t be used as an excuse to dismiss or erase systemic trauma.
