April 26 to May 2 is National Immunization Awareness Week! Did you know vaccines recommended during pregnancy are safe! When you get vaccinated while pregnant, you pass on protective proteins called antibodies to your developing baby. Once your baby is born, these antibodies provide them with short-term protection against the disease you were immunized against while pregnant. For more information on immunization and pregnancy, visit: healthlinkbc.ca/health-library…

This substance is highly toxic, causes heavy and prolonged sedation, and requires more naloxone to reverse. Overdoses have been reported to occur when the substance is smoked. For more information, see: stories.northernhealth.ca/news/toxic-dru… For information on other overdose prevention resources, see: northernhealth.ca/health-topics/…

February is Heart Month and Wear Red Day is February 13 February 2026 marks Heart Month in Canada, focusing on raising awareness about heart health through various events and initiatives aimed at prevention and education. February 13 is Wear Red Day, a national initiative led by the Canadian Women’s Heart Health Alliance that raises awareness about women’s heart and vascular health across Canada. Heart and vascular disease are the leading causes of premature death in women in Canada, yet many risk factors are preventable. Wear Red Canada Day is an opportunity for all of us to learn more, get involved, and take action. We encourage everyone to wear red on February 13 and support women’s heart and vascular health. Visit cwhha.ca/wearredcanada/ for more info. #HerHeartMatters

On the afternoon of Tuesday, February 10, Northern Health and the Tumbler Ridge Health Centre were notified of an active police response in the community, and the potential for the health centre to receive patients from the incident scene. The Tumbler Ridge Health Centre's Emergency Department operates weekdays from 9 am to 5 pm and was fully staffed at the time of the notification. In close collaboration with BC Emergency Health Services, the site received two patients, who were treated and prepared for transfer to higher levels of care outside of our health region - one who had been assessed as being in critical condition, and another in serious to fair condition. BC EHS attended to other patients who did not require hospitalization. Additionally, the RCMP has reported that a third victim died while being transported to hospital. For patient privacy reasons, no further information on these individuals will be shared by Northern Health. Read more: stories.northernhealth.ca/news/northern-…
