Everyone is talking about NYSC Adire uniform. I'm looking at something else. I'm looking at cotton farmers. I'm looking at indigo growers. I'm looking at textile manufacturers. Because whenever the government guarantees demand for a locally made product, it creates an opportunity across the entire value chain. If NYSC begins sourcing its uniforms from Nigerian-made Adire, the opportunity isn't only for the people sewing the uniforms. Someone has to grow the cotton. Someone has to produce the indigo used for the dye. Someone has to spin the yarn, weave the fabric, dye it, package it, and transport it. That's how industries grow. Nigeria was once one of Africa's major cotton producers, but production has fallen dramatically over the years. Many textile mills that once created thousands of jobs are now silent. A policy like this won't revive the industry overnight. But every industrial comeback starts with one thing: guaranteed demand. If implemented well, NYSC could become one of the largest consistent buyers supporting Nigeria's cotton, textile, and garment value chain. For farmers, this could mean a bigger market. For processors, more business. For young entrepreneurs, opportunities in fashion, dye production, logistics, and garment manufacturing. Sometimes, the biggest opportunities aren't in the finished product everyone sees. They're hidden in the supply chain. That's where I'm looking.
