I’m not an atheist but that’s more of a labeling thing, it doesn’t matter. What does matter is that this moralizing regarding welfare/other social services ultimately provides lesser outcomes. The religious component of it is unfortunately (to this point) inextricably tied to it, IMO. However, so is the neoliberal desire to run everything through a fucking “non-profit” where people make 250k a year. Everyone wants to be savior. I would say by virtue of the fact that my savior is community, my higher power is the group, I don’t feel the need for any middlemen. This, yes, I am very convicted about.
